What are the parking/transport/accessibility arrangements? 2017-08-31T13:38:57+00:00

Parking is available at the Brisbane Showgrounds (RNA) for $13/day, payable by cash only upon entry. Alternatively, you can pre-purchase parking online here: https://www.rna.org.au/event-parking.aspx

The best parking for the event is via O’Connell Terrace. There is also parking in Sideshow Alley and Showring 2, both right next to the event site. Please view or print the Parking Map for directions.

All aspects of the event and the parking are wheelchair accessible.

How much does it cost to adopt a dog or a cat? 2016-08-31T15:00:36+00:00

Adoption prices range from $99 – $1,500 however this is just an indication, all prices from all groups are different on the day. This price includes microchipping, desexing, vaccination and flea and worm treatments all up to date.

Can I adopt a dog on the day? 2016-08-12T13:26:12+00:00

Yes – the majority will be available to take home on the day, if you are ready.

Some of the Rescue Groups require a property check before being rehomed, but they will have signage to clearly indicate when this condition applies

Can I bring my dog along? 2016-08-19T16:00:28+00:00

If you are hoping to adopt another dog, you can bring your own dog to make sure they are a good fit. You can’t bring your dog into the event area, but Paws and Relax will be on-site (at the entrance to the event) to look after your dog while you browse. Our trained behavioral staff will conduct an introduction once you find your new family member.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to introduce your dog to a new cat, but our adoption team will be more than happy to provide lots of helpful advice about how to correctly introduce your new family members. It’s very important that your new cat is introduced correctly to your dog and in a safe home environment. The Big Adopt Out event is not a place to be doing these sensitive introductions.

Unfortunately, you can’t bring your cat to the event, but our wonderful adoption team will be more than happy to give you lots of helpful advice on how to introduce your newly adopted pet to your home cat or dog. It’s very important that your new dog or cat is introduced correctly to your home cat in a safe home environment. The Big Adopt Out event is not a place to be doing these sensitive introductions.

Do I need to bring a cat carrier or a dog collar or leash if I plan to adopt? 2017-07-22T13:19:15+00:00

You are welcome to bring these items should you already have them. However, we will have a large range available at the World for Pets store onsite at the event so that you can pick a suitable size for the animal you are adopting. The store will have everything you need for your new pet.

What if my adoptive cat or dog becomes ill when I get them home? 2016-08-17T19:49:07+00:00

You will need to contact the rescue group you adopted from directly and they will be able to assist you with ensuring the animal gets all the care it needs. It’s important you contact the rescue group from your paperwork as even though RSPCA QLD hosts the event, we only have information on the animals in our care and the other rescue groups will be best equip to help you with any concerns you have about that particular animal.

What if my adopted pet does not work out? 2016-08-17T19:48:44+00:00

Again, it’s very important that you contact the rescue group you adopted from as soon as possible. Each rescue group has its own policies and procedures and they will be the best ones to assist you through this process. It’s important you contact the rescue group from your paperwork as even though RSPCA Qld hosts the event, we only have information on the animals in our care and the other rescue groups will be best equip to help you should your adoption not work out once you are at home.

The adoption fee you pay on the day gets distributed back to the rescue group you adopted from.

Big Adopt Out will go ahead rain, hail or shine. The event site is undercover for your comfort.

Yes, there are public toilets available at the Brisbane Showgrounds.

RSPCA QLD organizes the event volunteers for the day from our current list of wonderful volunteers. You can express interest in a volunteering role via volunteering@rspcaqld.org.au however we cannot guarantee a position at this year’s event.

RSPCA Queensland organize the event on behalf of all the rescue groups.
